Tourist spots abound the state. A visit to Hollywood could definitely make travel to California unforgettable. Diversity could also be seen in the state's climate. Mediterranean climate can be experienced along coastal California and parts of the interior valley. This region is the major source of California's water supply. Mountains cover most of the state's surface 23% of which is covered by the Sierra Nevada, the longest mountain range in California. The state is also a host to three deserts, the Mojave, Colorado, and Death Valley. With a state as diverse as California, one could always find things to do and places to go. It stands to reason that the state where the theme park was invented (Disneyland, 1955) would also extend its affection for whimsy to shopping. Throughout the golden state, shopping is more than what is inside the store. If San Diego was the birthplace of California, then Old Town San Diego - the city’s historic pueblo dating from 1769 – is the birthplace of themed shopping. Here in 1968, California established a state historic park to preserve its first downtown. The granddaddy of California’s destination shopping centers is Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza. If not, performance shopping is found at two of the biggest names in entertainment, Disney and Universal Pictures. This posh street of high-end stores was the set for Julia Robert’s character’s shopping spree in the movie Pretty Woman. Though, the window shopping and people watching are free.

Columbia State Historic Park near Sonora, in the Gold Country, is another place that rejects the present. One themed California shopping area that has never slowed down is San Francisco’s famous Chinatown. It is understandable why California attracts a lot of people. (In Oregon, for example, they sell lots of license-plate rims stating "I hate California.") With a variety of geological wonders and intriguing larger-than-life tourist attractions, the popular state of California is filled with amazing nooks and crannies to explore.

Throughout the state, a refreshing collection of rivers and other bodies of water decorate the terrain, including the Sacramento River, San Joaquin River, San Francisco Bay, and Klamath River. Premium golfing outings in California usually take place in Palm Springs, where fantastic golf courses, classy eateries, and upscale shopping are situated. The "Golden State" of California has long been one of the most famous settlement spots in the United States. California climate is also one of the most diverse in the whole United States. Other upscale communities can be found in the Bay Area, Central Valley, and the coastal strip between Los Angeles and San Diego. Tourism remains as California's leading industry. Some of the well-known tourist destinations within the state are Disneyland, Hollywood, Golden Gate Bridge, and Sea World. There are many more similarly famous theme parks, national parks, and landmarks all throughout the state.

Among the famous California professional sports teams are: the Los Angeles Lakers (NBA), Los Angeles Clippers (NBA), Sacramento Kings (NBA), Golden State Warriors (NBA), Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB), San Diego Padres (MLB), San Francisco Giants (MLB), Los Angeles Angels (MLB), Oakland Athletics (MLB), San Francisco 49ers (NFL), San Diego Chargers (NFL), Oakland Raiders (NFL), Anaheim Mighty Ducks (NHL), and the Los Angeles Kings (NHL). Seized by the United States Marines at the height of the Mexican-American war (1846 - 1848), San Diego Bay houses the largest concentration of military personnel in any city in the United States. With its natural beauty, coupled with teeming opportunities, living in the state of California promises a future worth spending in.
